2-DAY Suicide Intervention Certification Training (14 hours)  $135 + GST

Suicide affects people of all ages and backgrounds. Factors such as isolation, mental health issues, being unable to meet basic needs, abuse, addictions and having limited resources can increase the risk for suicide.

The 2-day Suicide Intervention Training workshop meets the required specifications needed to be employed by Child & Family Services.  The 2-day workshop allows more in-depth focus on intervention strategies and risk assessment, practical application of intervention strategies through role plays, and additional information and discussion regarding at-risk groups.  This workshop is recommended for individuals working with at-risk populations where contact with individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts is highly probable.

Upon completion of the Suicide Intervention Training, participants will:

·               Increase knowledge of the risk factors, clues and warning signs for suicide;

·               Learn basic skills needed to respond to these clues and warning signs;

·               Know how to assess the level of risk for suicide;

·               Reduce barriers and fears that can prevent reaching out to those at risk; and

·               Increase awareness of community resources available and how to connect those-at-risk to these supports.

Certificates will be issued to those who successfully complete the full 14 hours of training.  This workshop is eligible for 14 Category A credits for continuing competence requirements with Alberta College of Social Workers.
